We’ve invested significant time and effort into preparing these onboarding materials and organizing meetings—this process has taken years to refine. You are expected to go through each step carefully and thoroughly. Skipping or overlooking them reflects poorly on your commitment and professionalism.

1. Internship at GEOAI spans for a minimum of 90 days of hard work. You are expected to invest at least 8 hours per day; 5 days a week. If you are not ready to put this effort and impress us, then it is time to leave the room for another candidate. Reach out immediately to Dr Ghandour if you are considering not to pursue this internship anymore.

3. Read and Sign the below document and submit it to Dr Ghandour or Mohamad El Moussawi:

4. We are following a hybrid attendance schedule with 3 days of presence in the Mansourieh office per week (9:00 to 17:00). Talk to Dr Ghandour if you have an issue with that.

5. Slack is a paid service. They charge us per user. So let's benefit from this tool and ensure a very good communication level within the group. All updates should be on the channel in-thread and not through DM.

   • Install both Desktop and Mobile versions of Slack to always remain available (Online) during the day.
   • Reply in-thread is a must to conserve the discussion flow.
   • Do not send voice messages on Slack unless this is really necessary to convey your idea.
   • You need to provide regular/frequent update about your progress on the appropriate channel.
   • Add a profile picture.

6. Keep a log of daily working hours and task. You will add those info to the weekly group meeting canvas. Joining the weekly GEOAI group meeting keeps you up-to-date with various group ongoing projects.

   • Ask Dr Ghandour to add you to the weekly group calendar.
   • Always check your calendar and reply with either Yes or No for each event. This is part of what we call the Calendar Etiquette!
   • Let us know ahead of time if you cannot attend a certain event.
   • Bonus: Clean up your email inbox 🙂

7. We use Notion for Knowledge Management:

   • Install Notion
   • Create an account using your university email.
   • Ask for permission to access our workspace.

8. Proceed immediately to:

   • Read How to Contribute? about how to contribute through GitHub.
   • Send Dr Ghandour your github username to add you to GEOAI github organization.
   • Read thoroughly this GIS-101 about GIS basics.
   • Bookmarks present in the Newsbies’ Toolkit section are meant to help you get started. Go through them!

9. You need to have Ubuntu installed as dual boot on your device for the scope of this internship.

10. Once needed, use VPN setup instructions to access our group VPN.

11. You need to make tangible research/development contribution to be listed among the Team members.

14. Maintain a respectful and collaborative attitude at all times. Speak courteously with your supervisor and team members. Constructive feedback, active listening, and professional tone are expected in all discussions—whether in meetings, Slack, or emails. This is essential to fostering a healthy and productive team culture.

15. Once you reach the end of your internship, you need to make sure to go through the Clearance Procedure.
